Simon Austin

Simon was born and raised in Forest Row, studied for the BMus at Exeter under Nicholas Maw and taught music in a number of schools before changing career into Special Needs teaching. He has composed a sizeable portfolio of works, largely choral, many being settings of texts by Nick Nye. He sings in a number of groups, conducts his own chamber choir, the Sussex Occasional Singers and enjoys recorder ensemble playing.

Nick Nye

Nick Nye

Nick was born in Eastbourne, studied English at Cambridge and has written extensively, including the superb ‘Return to the Lost World’, a mischievous sequel to Conan Doyle’s book. His poetry has covered many aspects of human existence, mostly from a humanist perspective.  ‘This Human Shield’ was commissioned after a recent performance by Mark Beesley of ‘Some Unseen Face’, a trilogy of Nick’s poems relating to WW1 set by Simon for a 2014 Remembrance Day concert.

Nick’s set of nine poems entitled ‘Sussex Born’ reflect his, and Simon’s love of our wonderful county.
